The three starter families
Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are among the most costumed Pokémon after Pikachu: party hats, visors, Halloween costumes, clones, and in 2026 the Horizons outfits. Every stage of every family has its own box.
One exception: Squirtle's sunglasses
The sunglasses Squirtle, released for a 2018 Community Day, keeps its glasses as it evolves into Wartortle, then Blastoise. Other costumes don't carry over.
Trading for the rest
For a costume that doesn't come back, there's trading. Check what you're missing, then show your list to your friends.
Frequently asked questions
Can a costumed starter evolve?
Only the 2018 sunglasses Squirtle keeps its glasses as it evolves. Other costumes block evolution: each stage is caught directly.
What are clone Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise?
Cloned Pokémon released for the movie Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution: you can tell them by their tint and stiff look. They count as costumes.
How do I get a costume that's gone?
Wait for it to come back, often for the game's anniversary or a GO Fest, or trade for it with a friend.
