28 Unown, one Pokédex entry
Unown comes in 28 forms: one for each letter of the alphabet, plus "!" and "?". They count as a single Pokédex entry, but the game keeps track of all of them: open Unown's entry, then its forms, to see which ones you've already caught. This checklist does the same at a glance, for Shiny Unown too.
Where to find Unown
In the wild, Unown is very rare. Most come from events: GO Fest, Tours, Wild Area and local events. Each one only features a few letters, often the ones that spell the name of the event or of its host city. A letter released at one event may not come back for a long time.
Keep an eye on event announcements: when Unown are planned, the list of letters is usually given in advance. Check off what you have here, and you'll know right away whether the event is worth the trip.
Trading
A letter can't be changed into another: you have to encounter it, or get it in a trade. That's often the only way to get the letters from events you missed. Players who were there often have spares.
The Shiny version
All 28 letters are available as Shiny. The last ones arrived recently: K and W in November 2025, Z in February 2026, and Q at GO Fest 2026 in Tokyo. Shiny Unown only appear during events. In your checklist, the "Shiny" button keeps a separate list.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get every Unown letter?
Unown are very rare in the wild. They mostly appear during events (GO Fest, Tours, Wild Area, local events), a few letters at a time, often the ones that spell the event or the city. For the rest, trade with friends.
Can I change an Unown's letter?
No. Each letter is its own form: you have to encounter it, or get it in a trade.
Is every letter available as a Shiny?
Yes, since GO Fest 2026 in Tokyo, where Shiny Unown Q was released. Shiny Unown only appear during events.
